I think Tina Fey will be a wonderful VP…Oh…what?

Is it just me or does John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin look like Tina Fey? OH this is just ripe for comedy. I can’t wait to see Saturday Night Live. I hope they bring her back just to play Palin. For the record, this is a gimmick in my opinion, and I feel it is a very patronizing choice. Women are not going to vote for this woman because she is female. But I’ll write more on this later…sigh. McCain…what are you thinking???

Can you say Dan Quayle?  I can.  Oh so many flip flops to come.  She didn’t like Hillary Clinton’s “whining” during the primary season.

Can’t tell them apart huh? That’s Tina on the right. My boy Urban Bohemian thinks she looks like Fey too: McCain’s VP/Baby Mama?

Other people agree too:
Sarah Palin: Oh Lord, Tina Fey’s gonna have a field day…
Tina Fey for Vice President
Obama’s Big Bang, McCain’s Other Woman

3rd Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina: Will Gustav hit New Orleans and Houston

AFP is reporting that Exactly three years after deadly Hurricane Katrina slammed New Orleans, authorities on Friday begin bussing people out of the city ahead of the possible landfall of Gustav, forecast to hit the area early Tuesday as a powerful Category Three hurricane.

It is our hope at Hello, Negro that we don’t see a repeat of the destruction of Katrina; Displaced homeowners, a halt to the slow reconstruction process in New Orleans, and a repeat of the failure of government to protect and support it’s citizens by providing for their basic human needs. For all of the Katrina survivors in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas (Houston in particular) this anniversary comes at a scary time. However, we know that the strength of their spirits and the fortitude that they have developed through tragedy will allow them to bear what may come.

Be safe, that’s all that we ask of those in the region that may be hit this week by Gustav.

Irony: McCain’s Congratulates Obama on the Anniversary of MLK’s speech

Um…I think this from TV ad John McCain is great (video below).  It will run tonight before and after Obama’s historic speech at the DNC.  It’s good that McCain recognizes the significance of this day, but McCain voted against the MLK holiday in Arizona in 1983!  Right?!?!  Yes!!!  That is so ironic!  Do you really understand the significance of this day when you had an issue with giving the most significant man in this equation his own day?!?!?  Oh yes, he’s changed his mind now…sure, sure, he understands he was wrong.  OK, but it’s still ironic.  Don’t you think?

Spin Cycle has the details – “McCain will attempt to be make nice before he performs the widely speculated act of naming his vice president running mate some time Friday to counteract any boost in the polls for Obama.”

Obama’s Historic Speech Tonight, Star-studded lineup

Millions of people can’t wait for this historic event!!! I’m so excited that it’s the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” during the March on Washington. The speech is enough for me, but I hear tell there will be some entertainment.

Colorado jam-rock group Yonder Mountain String Band is scheduled to play sometime before the opening gavel at about 3 p.m. MDT. Academy Award winning actress and “American Idol” finalist Jennifer Hudson is slated to sing the national anthem.

Between 5 and 6 p.m. MDT, — member of the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas — will perform, accompanied by John Legend on piano, the official schedule shows. Singer Sheryl Crow is also scheduled for that hour. Then, between 6 and 7 p.m. MDT, soul legend Stevie Wonder will perform. Between 7 and 8 p.m., singer Michael McDonald is on the bill.

As for the surprise, rumors have been circulating for days that rocker Bruce Springsteen — who has endorsed Obama — would perform Thursday night shortly before or after the candidate’s speech. Continue reading

The Obama Shirt Spike Lee Was Wearing at the DNC on MSNBC Last Night: Obama Dunking on McCain

spike lee wearing obama dunk shirt

spike lee wearing obama dunk shirt

I love this shirt!!! (If you’re in Denver, you can get the shirt at THE 400) Obama for 2…no Obama for it all. He shoots he scores. In your FACE, McCAIN!!! Slam Dunk!! I’ts called the O-Face T-Shirt and I’m buying one online TODAY. Spike so looked like the black radical we love wearing that shirt. He said he bought the tee in Denver and had to walk 5 miles to get it once he saw it. Now that Spike Lee has worn this UNDRCRWN shirt it on national TV, it’s going to be sported all over (and most likely bootlegged and copied).

Here’s the video of Spike Lee on MSNBC

From “UNDRCRWN are the latest to pay homage as the basketball inspired label takes an unforgettable moment in basketball history and makes it distinctly Obama. Teaming up with Karmaloop and Denver retailer The 400, this t-shirt will be presented at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Denver. The inspiration if not immediately evident is based on Vince Carter’s spectacular Dunk over 7 foot something Frenchman Weiss back in 2000. The t-shirt’s sale will benefit local charities looking to improve inner city youth participation in sports.”

Possible plot to shoot Obama stopped

DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama faces “no credible threat” from what had appeared to be a plot on his life, CNN reported Tuesday, citing authorities who nevertheless are pressing on with their investigation.

The network reported that office of the United States Attorney said law enforcement officials are “absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate.”

Four people were arrested Monday in Denver and charged with firearms and drug possession, amid fears of a plot to kill Obama.

Denver-based CBS34 said one of the men arrested had told authorities they were “going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using … a rifle … sighted at 750 yards (meters).”

The shooting was supposed to happen on Thursday when Obama is scheduled to accept the nomination as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the November elections at the 75,000-seat Invesco stadium, the television station reported.

The alleged plot was being investigated by the Secret Service, which is in charge of coordinating security for the Democratic Party convention as well as the FBI and the joint terrorism task force.

The US Attorney’s Office in Denver has scheduled a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the incident.

CBS34 also reported that one man was arrested on Sunday after police found two high-powered rifles in a rented pick-up truck he was driving, while another man in custody reportedly was wearing a swastika and was thought to have links to white supremacist groups. Continue reading

Duke Lacrosse Rape Scandal Accuser to Write Book

When I saw the headline something just told me that the media is going to drag her through the mud…for the second time. I hope Obiden doesn’t comment on this, but you know some dumb reporter is going to ask their opinions.  Sigh…Anyway. As you can imagine there are a lot of different takes on this possible book already. Here we go…

Since three former Duke Lacrosse players were declared innocent of rape and assault charges, the alleged victim in the highly publicized Duke Lacrosse case has remained out of public view until now. In a press release, Crystal Mangum’s manager has announced plans to release a tell-all memoir entitled “The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story.””

BET NEWS“”It is “the only definitive account of the life and struggles of the woman at the center of the Duke Lacrosse case, the alleged accuser,” said Clark, who is also Mangum’s manager, in a news release. “Were it not for the Duke Lacrosse Case, she likely would be described as a bright, young woman from Durham, North Carolina, who has had a difficult life.” He said that the alleged victim plans to donate $1 from each book she sells to help battered women.”

The Duke Lacrosse Rape Accuser Memoir That Nobody Asked For – “So, remember that Duke University lacrosse rape case? Remember how they were cleared of all charges and the only reason it really got any traction was because a politically ambitious district attorney forced the issue? Yes, that case. No, Duke lacrosse players didn’t forcibly tag team a stripper they hired. But the aforementioned stripper, who made the accusations on three men who were indicted then ultimately cleared, remember her? Well, she’s writing a book about it. In what will make Miley Cyrus’s upcoming memoir look like The Audacity Of Hope, get ready for…”

Fox News – “The press release for the memoir says that Crystal Gail Mangum has been “called an exotic dancer and a prostitute, and the public was led to believe she wanted to frame some ‘good college students’ from Duke and put them in jail. … “Published reports throughout 2006 and 2007 portrayed Crystal as a gold-digging hooker searching for a big payday or as an unstable, troubled young woman. The truth about Crystal’s life, her account of what happened on March 13, 2006, accusations and the motives of the people criticizing her were never seriously explored,” the release continues.”

Rapper Da Brat gets 3 years in jail

The Atlanta-Journal Constitution – A DeKalb County judge sentenced rapper Da Brat to three years in prison Friday for hitting an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader in the head with a nearly full liquor bottle at an Atlanta-area nightclub, causing permanent facial damage.

Superior Court Judge Gail Flake also sentenced the rapper, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, to seven years probation and 200 hours of community service. Harris also must get substance abuse treatment and a mental evaluation and attend anger management classes.

A handful of Harris’s family sat on the back row of the courtroom. They wept when a sheriff’s deputy took her into custody.

“I love y’all,” Harris, 34, said as she was led out of the courtroom.

“We love you too” the relatives replied in unison.

Dressed in black pants and top with her short hair in braids, Harris did not comment other than to answer “yes” several time when the judge asked her if she understood her guilty plea to a felony aggravated assault charge and her negotiated sentencing. Continue reading

Friday Question: Did John McCain have a Senior Moment?

If I had 7 houses worth 14 million dollars, I would be well aware of that, AND be able to recite all of the addresses verbatim at a moment’s notice. But I’m in my early thirties, so that’s not so impressive. John McCain is over 70, so I expect that he would have a senior moment or two. He definitely had a senior moment on Wednesday.

“I think — I’ll have my staff get back to you,” McCain told two curious Politico reporters Wednesday.

The 15-acre ranch where McCain hosted members of his press corps this year holds six separate houses, so does that count as one home or six?

In Phoenix, the McCains’ primary residence is a nearly 7,000 square foot condominium worth about $4.66 million. The McCains purchased two condos in 2006 and knocked down some walls to create the massive space in a high-rise that features valet parking, a rooftop swimming pool, personal spa services and on-staff housekeepers, among other amenities. Source

The problem with this is that I don’t want him to forget important things like what he told the secretary of state to do while on an overseas trip. I don’t want him to forget the name of some diplomat’s wife and piss someone off. I don’t want him to start calling people in his cabinet by other people’s names. If you have older relatives who sometimes lose it (come on, you know what I mean) then you know that a senior moment at the wrong time can be disastrous. He was wide open on this one. Obama said…

“I guess if you think that being rich means you gotta make $5 million and if you don’t know how many houses you have, then it might not be surprising that you think the economy is fundamentally strong,” Obama said. “But if you’re like me and you’ve got one house, or you are like the millions of people who are struggling right now to keep up with their mortgage so they don’t lose their home, you might have a different perspective.” [Note: Republicans note that Obama has got a very expensive house. But at least he knows how many he has]

I remember being a kid in the Regan era and how people made fun of his senility or perceived forgetfulness. He was at the end of his presidency so, who really cared. I’m not interested in McCain coming in foggy and getting foggier with each year. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not in the mood for the White House to have to do a lot of explaining about public slip ups, falls down stairs, health problems, etc. There is a chance he could go 4 years without an incident…but I’m not willing to take that chance.

What do you think?
