Sharpton Thinks Black Chicago Kids Should Skip School

He calls the public school system a throwback to Jim Crow days.
Because Chicago Public Schools have done far too little to distance themselves from the separate-and-unequal school system of the Jim Crow Era, parents should keep their children away from classrooms when school convenes on Sept. 2, says the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has joined the growing boycott. “Whether it be funding and whether it be graduation rates, we are still separated and unequal,” Sharpton said, speaking to the congregation at the New Landmark Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday morning. “Well maybe if it wasn’t unfair, they [ministers] wouldn’t be talking about a boycott.” Illinois Gov. Todd Blagojevich says he’s working with lawmakers to bring about educational equity, The Chicago Sun Times reports. “I have called the legislators back into special session on Tuesday to focus specifically on school funding,” he told Channel 2 News. “But I think it’s wrong to encourage kids to miss school.”

  1. I don’t believe that this is the exact exercise I would recommend … but then again I use to think that no kids left behind would work. :(

The governor of Illinois name is Rod Blagojevich. Not that I like him.

It just doesn’t make sense to me. Al is gonna fight kids dropping out of school by having them skip school??? Now I’ve seen EVERYTHING!

There certainly does need to be a mass exodus of male (particularly Black male students) from H.S. and lower. Few women have given credence to the fact that our public school are PRIMARILY failing boys for the last few decades AND this problem is not exclusive to black boys. And there is no cry to help them. Womens groups, lobbyist are powerful and have alot of funding from lawyers, the ABA and the state.

The only way to prompt real change is for boys and young men to boycott the public schools until real concern is given to boys. Part of the problem w/ trying to help our young BM is the problem of an educational system which treats problems w/ teaching boys as a problem w/ the boys and not the system. On the other hand when girls were experiencing problems all sorts of radical reforms were proposed to the teaching SYSTEM and no one gave up through ups and downs. You want to see sexism? you should see how many Main stream media outlets printed the findings of a study by the AAUW (more later). Unfortunately our young men are demonized and put on attention deficit drugs by women who dont KNOW how to reach boys.

If we instead continue to support an educational system which seems FINE w/ letting generation upon generation of Black Boys (all Boys, as this problem of the educational system Throwing boys Away is also apparent in educational studies of ALL boys of the last few decades) then we will continue to experience the same inequity gender-wise in college & the job market.

While I usu. am not big fan of Sharpton, this issue is topical, politically incorrect according to Women’s Groups and CRUCIAL to the Black Community and ALL BOYS.

There most definitely is a movement to dumb down boys in general. Girls across all racial groups are doing extremely well in school now that NEW teaching models have been implemented. Everything boys liked and that helped them learn has been eradicated in most if not all school districts AND women’s groups are trying to keep attention and finances being redistributed from girls, who AGAIN are doing exceptionally well, to boys which ALL EDUCATIONAL INDICATORS show are in BAD SHAPE.

Womens groups have become enemies to not only men but Boys:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/19/AR2008051902798.html

Boys need to drop out in mass to promote a real change. At this point in the conversation, the American Assoc of University is claiming the boys are doing JUST FINE. THIS against ALL studies which say otherwise.

What would women suggest if girls were falling behind and being given DRUGS for Attention Deficit Disorder because OBVIOUSLY the problem is the boys. No sympathy, no help, no outcry, no black women.

Sharpton finally has involved himself in something in the black community which doesnt involve PC.

The Black Boys and others need help because we all decided to divert full attention towards girls and rightfully so. What scares me is the LARGE AMT of women fighting attention being focussed on or young men. Anybody care?!

When Hillary was on the ropes w/ men she proposed single sex education schools for Black Boys, before then this OPPRESSED WOMEN never said anything specifically re: men or boys. Nothing has been heard since except OBAMA putting down Black Fathers on Fathers Day. Which is why he lost my BM vote unfortunately. Up til then he was batting 1000.

Black Boys should boycott the Feminist pharmauceutical/educational system IMMEDIATELY. Thanks Sharpton for thinking about the Black Communities future.

    Crops,
Is staying home from school the only option for our young black men? What do you think they will do if their not in school? Sit diligently on their online encyclopedias, or play video games? -And do you think that they will be the games that promote higher levels of thinking, or the ones that promote violence? -And do you really think that this nation’s “Leaders” (like Barak Obama) and their “Feminist” wives will do anything about this besides shake their heads at us?
You are not the only one who is concerned about this, but there is clearly a better way to resolve this issue.

Is staying home from school the only option for our young black men?
-No. however no decent options have been presented for rectifying the problem as it seems educators/fed/state have become to comfortable w/ letting the situation continue to deteriorate for our boys and young men.

Sit diligently on their online encyclopedias, or play video games? -And do you think that they will be the games that promote higher levels of thinking, or the ones that promote violence?

-I expect them to either work or do whatever they want to do AND THEN return to school once they’ve been improved. Not doing so will result in NOTHING being done to improve the system. Protest requires sacrifice and a few weeks or months as a price is well worth it for future generations of men. Besides, its good that the young men understand what protest test id as a tool of change. Thus they may feel more like responsible citizens instead of lackeys on a sinking ship.

And do you really think that this nation’s “Leaders” (like Barak Obama) and their “Feminist” wives will do anything about this besides shake their heads at us?

-As a BM I’m accostumed to the head shaking? Thats why I ignore the reactions of people who never had BMs/boys back in the first place, thanks Obama! Feminist actually WANT educators TO IGNORE the failings of the educational system towards boys. A month or so ago the AAUW (American Assoc of University Women) released a study saying that the problems w/ boys being left behind WASNT REALLY a PROBLEM at all, blasphemy!. …

    http://www.reason.com/blog/show/126587.html

“Maggie Ford, complained in the New York Times letters column that Kleinfeld was “reducing the problems of our children to this petty ‘who is worse off, boys or girls?’ [which] gets us nowhere.’” From the leader of an organization that spent nearly a decade ceaselessly promoting the proposition that American girls are being “shortchanged,” this comment is rather remarkable”…

They dont want ANY FOCUS to go towards boys because they feel that it would deprive girls who are doing EXCEPTIONALLY well in the all-female environment. So again Buena717, who cares about what they say or think.

Will a walk-out prompt reform. You bet your ass. No one wants to have Egg on their face from treating girls w/ problems like there’s a problem w/ the school system while the likes of Obama and Feminist would claim..

the problem is the boys. Black men are alone, assailed on all sides w/ lil’ to no support from anybody and its time we act like it and do things independent of any one else’s concerns but our own.

Any educational system which becomes comfortable with half or more of its male students dropping out as to be reviewed for gross neglience and perhaps we should reconcile ourselves w/ the idea that any system that would ALLOW teaching boys to deteriorate to this state, maybe didnt have the best interest in mind for them anyway. All women educators? Recess and gym has been outlawed in more than a few school districts as well as games that boys played.

If the genders had been reversed and girls were losing out to an all male teaching staff, what do you think the reaction would be from the ladies?

If the genders had been reversed and girls were losing out to an all male teaching staff, what do you think the reaction would be from the ladies?

It qualifies already in the very near past as the ‘Reformation’ which has yet to fully acknowlegdge women as equal to men in the same occupations.
However, I think that your problem here is that you are spending too much time focussing on ‘victimization’- your’s especially.
Many agree with you that changes must be made,
but if we all spent more time visiting homes to work with these boys, then we wouldn’t have to ‘neo-Protest’. True Protest hasn’t taken place since the 60′s. What people do now is spin stories and have pity-parties as an excuse to wine about their past because they are too lazy to commit to those things that make true protest successful.

  9. Crops

I’m more concerned that the ladies feel so lil for their sons that they do nothing NOW including your visiting.

Thank You Sharpton for giving a damn about black boys and please avoid protesting anything else though without emailing Buena717.

And the reason that women arent equal to men in all occupations is because they CHOOSE not to do them. NO women in Science in Engineering, blame yourself for choosing part-time flexible work. Victimization much Buena717?!
