Former SC official basically calls Michelle Obama’s ancestors to gorillas

He apologized but I don’t give a F***.  Sorry.  This is unacceptable.  Totally.

Today former state election director Rusty DePass issued an apology Wednesday for his comments last week linking an escaped gorilla with the ancestors of First Lady Michelle Obama.

The formal apology came during a noon press conference at the offices of the State NAACP.

“I am truly sorry for any offense I have caused,” DePass said, speaking to a small group gathered for the press conference.

DePass, commenting on the facebook.com social networking Web site Friday, created a stir when he said an escaped gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia was probably one of Obama’s ancestors.

DePass responded to a facebook.com link to news the gorilla had briefly escaped his cage by writing: “I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors – probably harmless.”

DePass later admitted he was referring to the First Lady.  source

Um…NAACP, why did you host this fake apology? Why?

  1. I believe that he regrets the consequences of his actions. But I’m starting to think that for certain actions/offenses, people don’t get to apologize.

I’m sure the SC NAACP was trying to be gracious about it, but I would have refused his appearance. Once you show people who you really are, you don’t get to “erase” it with an apology, you just have to live with it and prove otherwise by what you do from then on.

  2. Hey, y’all! I found you through TheBlackSnob, who’s been on my blogroll forever. I’m putting you on my blogroll if you’ll put me on yours. Deal?

I feel that his apology is bull, why would you say something like and then apologize?he meant what he said,I’m tired of all these white people with power making racist comments and feeling sorry about it,why say it if you know its wrong?they know what they are saying and are getting away with all their racist comments and its all bull.

Have you heard about the Maafa 21 documentary that has just been released? It goes into great detail about the who, what and how racist attitudes are being perpetuated today and what the ultimate goal of it is.You can see a preview at maafa21.com

I feel like this is unacceptable and if this was any other First lady he would be ostracized in front of his community and the country.

  6. 7. *sigh* I’m guessing this a**clown is white.

I’m 48 years old and white, and I’ve pretty much resigned myself that I’ll spend the rest of my life apologizing for morons of Caucasian descent.

The only good thing about bigots is they’re predictable. They’re pretty much ALWAYS going to act like a**clowns.
