No Question: This Nivea ad is racially insensitive (update: they apologized)

The black blogs are a buzz about this ad.

Um…so a black man’s uncivilized self = Questlove.  AKA. a guy with a big afro and facial hair?  Really, Nivea?  I read about this on Tumblr and was cracking up at people noting that the lotion company’s name sounds like the name of an Atlanta stripper.  LOL

Apparently, Questlove thought that was some bulls*** and took to Facebook and Twitter about it.

What do you guys think?

(I’m going to go looking for a Caucasian version with a guy with long shaggy hair and a beard.  Wish me luck.)

UPDATE: Nivea agrees with me.

The company apologized on Facebook: “Thank you for caring enough to give us your feedback about the recent “Re-civilized” NIVEA FOR MEN ad. This ad was inappropriate and offensive. It was never our intention to offend anyone, and for this we are deeply sorry. This ad will never be used again. Diversity and equal opportunity are crucial values of our company.” (source: Clutch/MTV)

Typical Negro Shout Out of the Day

Today I’m starting a new series of posts called “Typical Negro Shout Out of the Day”.  I’ll regularly post “Shout Outs” to blogs, celebs , pundits, and other notables.  This is in honor of the grand ole Black tradition of randomly “shouting out” people when you have access to speak to a large group of people (via radio, television, your boy’s rap video, etc).  Even President Obama has done it.

Shout out to one of my favorite blogs, Field Negro!  Thanks for the love you’re currently showing us with the feature.  We’re feeling you too.  “Hey!” <– said with my best ghetto girl intonation.  Blessings!

Obama is NOT the Anti-Christ, He’s Black and That’s the Problem

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  Political correctness, be damned!  All of the racists and bigots out there need to just take it back to 1960 and call the President the N-Word!  I’m tired of the re-directing.  Stop coming up with random titles and false charges to apply to this man.  You are mad because the President of the United States is a Black man. Period. You are afraid.  You are outraged that a Black person has that much power.  You are a closeted racist and you know who you are.  You are so bold and you are so sure you’re right, why do you hide your true feelings?

LiveScience.com – Americans have some extreme views of President Obama, with a new survey revealing 40 percent of adults believe he is a socialist, and about a quarter of survey participants thinking the president is a racist, anti-American and even doing things Hitler did.

The whammy: 14 percent of Americans say President Barack Obama may be the Antichrist. When split by political party, 24 percent of Republicans and 6 percent of Democrats viewed the nation’s leader in this way.

The results come from a Harris Poll involving 2,320 adults who were surveyed online between March 1 and March 8 by Harris Interactive, a market research firm. Respondents were selected from among those who agreed to participate in Harris Interactive surveys. The results were then weighted to reflect the composition of the U.S. adult population. [Infographic Compares Views]

Here’s the percentage breakdown of respondents’ views of President Obama:

  • 38 percent say he wants to take away Americans’ right to own guns.
  • 32 percent say he is a Muslim.
  • 29 percent think he wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one world government.
  • 29 percent think he has done many things that are unconstitutional.
  • 27 percent say he resents America’s heritage.
  • 27 percent say he does what Wall Street and the bankers tell him to do.
  • 25 percent say he was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president.
  • 25 percent say he is a domestic enemy that the U.S. Constitutions speaks of.
  • 23 percent say he is a racist.
  • 23 percent say he is anti-American.
  • 23 percent say he wants to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers.
  • 20 percent say he is doing many of the things that Hitler did.

When broken out by political party, results showed some stark differences. For instance, the majority of Republicans believed the president is a Muslim and a socialist, while around 40 percent believe he is a racist, someone who resents American heritage and “wants terrorists to win.”

Hitler?  Really?  Where is this sentiment coming from? Why do people hold these false, extreme beliefs? Because in politically correct, “post-racial”  America you can’t just say, “I don’t like the President because he’s a nigger and I don’t like/trust/serve/deal with niggers!”.  Say it.  Start saying it pundits!   Start saying Fox News!  Start saying it Tea Party members!  Join those who are very open with their racist views and don’t hide behind politics.  Be honest and stop this ridiculous posturing. You  go around calling the President and Congress liars and crooks but you yourself hide your real intentions. Trust me, your fellow Americans would prefer to know who they are REALLY dealing with and hearing from.

I would much rather know that you’re a bigot than have you smile in my face or be dishonest about it.  Go ahead, call a spade a spade.

Retired Black White House Butler Talks About His Experience, Obama

Eugene Allen, 89, a retired White House butler, tries on his old tuxedo for a photo. Allen, who served eight presidents during a period when America ‘s racial history was being rewritten, is marveling at the election of Barack Obama.

The butler sees a new White House
Now retired, he started when blacks were in the kitchen.

By Wil Haygood LA Times November 7, 2008

Reporting from Washington — For more than three decades, Eugene Allen worked in the White House, a black man unknown to the headlines. During some of those years, harsh segregation laws lay upon the land.

He trekked home every night to his wife, Helene, who kept him out of her kitchen.

At the White House, he worked closer to the dirty dishes than to the Oval Office. Helene didn’t care; she just beamed with pride.

President Truman called him Gene. President Ford liked to talk golf with him. He saw eight presidential administrations come and go, often working six days a week.

“I never missed a day of work,” Allen said.

He was there while racial history was made: Brown vs. Board of Education, the Little Rock school crisis, the 1963 March on Washington , the cities burning, the civil rights bills, the assassinations.

When he started at the White House in 1952, he couldn’t even use the public restrooms when he ventured back to his native Virginia . “We had never had anything,” Allen, 89, recalled of black America at the time. “I was always hoping things would get better.”

In its long history, the White House — note the name — has had a complex and vexing relationship with black Americans.

“The history is not so uneven at the lower level, in the kitchen,” said Ted Sorensen, who served as counselor to President Kennedy. “In the kitchen, the folks have always been black. Even the folks at the door — black.”

Before Gene Allen landed his White House job, he worked as a waiter at a resort in Hot Springs , Va. , and then at a country club in Washington .

He and wife Helene, 86, were sitting in the living room of their Washington home. Her voice was musical, in a Lena Horne kind of way. She called him “Honey.” They met at a birthday party in 1942. He was too shy to ask for her number, so she tracked his down. They married a year later.

In 1952, a lady told him of a job opening in the White House. “I wasn’t even looking for a job,” he said. “I was happy where I was working, but she told me to go on over there and meet with a guy by the name of Alonzo Fields.” Continue reading

My Favorite Reverse Racism Election Night Text Message

I got some crazy text messages myself on Nov 4th after Obama won, but the one John Thrasher posted to his blog was classic.

text message imageBefore my inbox gets flooded with messages from white supremacists, please realize this is entirely a joke and not meant to be serious at all.

Billy Price is one of my favorite black men in all the land, which makes this text message absolutely hilarious!

I need to get a good night’s sleep; 7AM is pretty early.

Obama: Our Brother, Our Father, Our President

Young black men need to see this.  Pass it on.  Doesn’t this photo just make you feel good.  Thanks to Yes We Can (hold babies) for posting this photo.  Visit their site for beautiful and funny photos of Barack Obama and children and child supporters of the Obama/Biden campaign.  The site notes, “Shout-out to Margaret Wolfson for diligently searching for the background information on this picture: US Democratic PRESIDENT ELECT Barack Obama holds a young boy after speaking during a townhall discussion at North Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Monday, September 8. (SAUL LOEB/Getty Images)”.  It is a powerful image.

You know how people say, “You need a hug.”?  Obama is the hug America needed right now.

Yes WE Did: Barack Obama wins the Presidency of the United States of America

I’m going to write something deep and heartfelt later today when I really have a chance to let Barack Obama’s win sink in. I’m going to get all profound (hopefully) and really do this historic event in America’s history justice. But right now…right now I’m just going to go on straight emotion and the since of pride I feel as an African American. I think this photo says it for me.
Obama Pictures and McCain Pictures

The First Black President of the United States…and he is really a force for Unity. Oh you should have seen the streets of NW DC and the crowds at the White House last night. So diverse…old, young, black, white, asian, hispanic…everyone was out and happy about Barack’s win. There was a new energy that has nothing to do with politics. It was about possiblities and a belief that “We the People” still exists. We can still be heard as one voice and affect change, real change.

“I am the hope and the dream of the slave”. Yes I am. Yes We Can. Yes WE Did. Congratulations America. The world applauds us.

McCain Supporter Carves “B” in her Cheek and Blames Black Obama Supporter

Pardon the pun but, this B is crazy.  CBS NEWS is reporting on a Pittsburgh woman charged with making false report after claiming the letter “B” was carved into her face by a black mugger.  She joins a the horrible legacy of white women who have committed crimes (like drowning their children) and white men who’ve done the same (murdering their wives) and blamed it on fictional black men.

I’ve read some horrible emails with all kinds of things people have made up to discredit the Obama campaign.  I’ve read crazy, racist, and outrageous bs on tons of blogs.  Have I been surprised at my fellow Americans in those cases…NO.  However, this…this is totally crazy.  This woman is sick.  Period.  The McCain camp can’t be blamed for her actions, but they need to understand that the kind of lies and rhetoric that they have tolerated and fostered has produced this kind of following.

From CBS NEWS – Full Story

Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false, police said.

“She just opened up and said she wanted to tell the truth,” Bryant said, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “She was upset with the media for blowing this into a political firestorm.”

Todd, who is white, initially told police she was attacked by a 6-foot-4 black man Wednesday night.

She told investigators she was attempting to use a bank branch ATM when the man approached her from behind, put a knife with a 4- to 5-inch blade to her throat and demanded money. She said she handed the assailant $60 and walked away.

Todd claimed that she suspected the man then noticed a McCain sticker on her car, became angry and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground and telling her “you are going to be a Barack supporter,” police said.

She said he continued to punch and kick her while threatening “to teach her a lesson for being a McCain supporter,” police said. She said he then sat on her chest, pinned her hands down with his knees and scratched a backward letter “B” into her face with a dull knife.

Todd also told police she didn’t seek medical attention, but instead went to a friend’s apartment nearby and called police about 45 minutes later.

On Friday, when she admitted the story was fabricated, Todd told police she believes she cut the backward “B” onto her own cheek, but she didn’t explain how or why, Bryant said.

“She said she doesn’t remember doing it but knows it must have been her who did it,” Bryant said, according to the Tribune-Review.

Todd reportedly said she thought of Barack Obama when she saw the “B” on her cheek and minutes later “came up what a plan” to manufacture the story, according to Bryant. “
