What does Michele Bachmann know about the African-American community?

I’m confused.  I know that all the potential Republican candidates are basically competing on the airwaves to see who can bash Obama best.  However, Michele Bachmann has tacked on some  promises to her usual President bashing in this video that I’m don’t think she intends to keep.

“This president has failed the Hispanic community. He has failed the African-American community,” she said. “He has failed us all when it comes to jobs.” Um, just because your intern looked up some statistics online, does mean you understand the impact of joblessness in minority communities.

  • Is this how she appeals to Blacks and Latinos?  I guess we’re dumb enough to just believe numbers and not consider the context of our lives or who’s talking, huh?
  • Does she really, really intend to be a jobs champion for Blacks and Latinos?
  • Is equality and job creation in minority communities what the Tea Party has been fighting for all this time?  If so (you know that’s not so) that message has not been clear at all.

I’m very confused.   Is she running for President of the USA or President of the NAACP?  Is she trying to present at the next Alma Awards?  Please!!  People will say anything to get a vote.

Scott Sisters: I don’t like Haley Barbour, However…

…he gets 2 1/2 cool points for pardoning the Scott Sisters. He still reminds me of Boss Hog from Dukes of Hazard a little to much for me to even jokingly be comfortable with him as a viable candidate for President.  When I hear him talk I fully expect to be sprayed with a firehose, knocking the “Ain’t I A Man” poster out of my hands.  He sounds racist…like people say “You sound ghetto”, so don’t act like I’m being harsh.  I don’t think I’m being racist.  At a minimum, I am judging him due to his accent and the region he represents.

There is southern and then there is Mississippi.  When I heard about the Scott Sister’s story, my soul said that the place of my mother’s people has not changed much since it’s bloody days of lynching, murder, overt racism and “putting negroes in their place”.  Here’s a synopisis of their story from the NAACP’s Letter of Petition to Barbour:

Jamie and Gladys Scott – the “Scott Sisters” – have been incarcerated in Mississippi for the last 16 years for an armed robbery which, according to court testimony, yielded $11. They have consistently denied involvement in the crime. Although neither of the Scott Sisters had a prior criminal record, they were each sentenced to an extraordinary double life sentence.

The presiding judge in their trial, Judge Marcus Gordon, has a history of racially biased rulings, including granting bail to the KKK murderer of the three civil rights workers: Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner.

Furthermore, Jamie Scott now has lost renal function in one of her kidneys and cannot survive without a transplant. She has suffered repeated infections and been hospitalized due to unsanitary prison conditions. The Department of Corrections will not allow tests for kidney compatibility even though numerous volunteers have come forward.

Also, at the time of their arrest, Jamie was 22 years old and Gladys was 19 years old and pregnant. Two African-American youth, who admitted taking the money, stated at the Scott Sisters’ trial that they falsely implicated the sisters in order to receive a reduced sentence.  From what I read, the youth did end up in jail, but only served about 3 years.

NPR reported that Republican Gov. Haley Barbour decided in December to release them. “One condition: That 35-year-old Gladys follow through on her offer to donate a kidney (provided that doctors say it’s safe for her to do so) to 38-year-old Jamie, who needs regular dialysis…”  Um…there is always a catch, huh.  How about you just let them go because the evidence and sentence are shady and let them handle their family business without any intrusion??

Anyway…I just wanted to give my 2 cents on ole Haley since the 2012 election predictions and in full swing and people are wondering if he will run.  It took TOOO long for these women to receive justice.  However, I’m glad that Gov. Barbour saw the light and released them.  That being said, I agree with Earl Ofari Hutchinson.

Writing in the Huffington Post, Daily Voice columnist Earl Ofari Hutchinson suggested the action was being taken, in part, because “Barbour sniffs the presidency,” a sentiment echoed by some others. “The governor of Mississippi did this for political reasons,” the sisters’ mother, Eveyln Rasco, told WAPT TV in Jackson. “He did it because I heard he was running for president,” she said. “I don’t think he did it because he opened his heart to do it.” – Daily Voice

I guess he’ll have a defense for accusations of racism on the campaign trail, huh?

Obama is NOT the Anti-Christ, He’s Black and That’s the Problem

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  Political correctness, be damned!  All of the racists and bigots out there need to just take it back to 1960 and call the President the N-Word!  I’m tired of the re-directing.  Stop coming up with random titles and false charges to apply to this man.  You are mad because the President of the United States is a Black man. Period. You are afraid.  You are outraged that a Black person has that much power.  You are a closeted racist and you know who you are.  You are so bold and you are so sure you’re right, why do you hide your true feelings?

LiveScience.com – Americans have some extreme views of President Obama, with a new survey revealing 40 percent of adults believe he is a socialist, and about a quarter of survey participants thinking the president is a racist, anti-American and even doing things Hitler did.

The whammy: 14 percent of Americans say President Barack Obama may be the Antichrist. When split by political party, 24 percent of Republicans and 6 percent of Democrats viewed the nation’s leader in this way.

The results come from a Harris Poll involving 2,320 adults who were surveyed online between March 1 and March 8 by Harris Interactive, a market research firm. Respondents were selected from among those who agreed to participate in Harris Interactive surveys. The results were then weighted to reflect the composition of the U.S. adult population. [Infographic Compares Views]

Here’s the percentage breakdown of respondents’ views of President Obama:

  • 38 percent say he wants to take away Americans’ right to own guns.
  • 32 percent say he is a Muslim.
  • 29 percent think he wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one world government.
  • 29 percent think he has done many things that are unconstitutional.
  • 27 percent say he resents America’s heritage.
  • 27 percent say he does what Wall Street and the bankers tell him to do.
  • 25 percent say he was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president.
  • 25 percent say he is a domestic enemy that the U.S. Constitutions speaks of.
  • 23 percent say he is a racist.
  • 23 percent say he is anti-American.
  • 23 percent say he wants to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers.
  • 20 percent say he is doing many of the things that Hitler did.

When broken out by political party, results showed some stark differences. For instance, the majority of Republicans believed the president is a Muslim and a socialist, while around 40 percent believe he is a racist, someone who resents American heritage and “wants terrorists to win.”

Hitler?  Really?  Where is this sentiment coming from? Why do people hold these false, extreme beliefs? Because in politically correct, “post-racial”  America you can’t just say, “I don’t like the President because he’s a nigger and I don’t like/trust/serve/deal with niggers!”.  Say it.  Start saying it pundits!   Start saying Fox News!  Start saying it Tea Party members!  Join those who are very open with their racist views and don’t hide behind politics.  Be honest and stop this ridiculous posturing. You  go around calling the President and Congress liars and crooks but you yourself hide your real intentions. Trust me, your fellow Americans would prefer to know who they are REALLY dealing with and hearing from.

I would much rather know that you’re a bigot than have you smile in my face or be dishonest about it.  Go ahead, call a spade a spade.

When Negroes Need to Feel “Special”: Tavis’s Black Agenda Event

Tavis Smiley is hosting a national forum today in Chicago titled, “We Count! The Black Agenda is the American Agenda.”  I don’t like the title at all.  The Black Agenda is PART of the American Agenda but it’s not THE Agenda any more than the Hispanic, White, Native American, or Asian “Agendas”.  Do I think that the US Government should show concern when any of its citizens are racially profiled, denied mortgages, or otherwise discriminated against?  Yes.  Do I think African-American face some special challenges due to institutionalized racism in this country?  Yes.  However, I think that the Black community has to galvanize and organize to create solutions internally and not depend on the Federal Government or Barack Obama for all the answers.  Where are the Black leaders who are challenging Black America to stand up and take responsiblity?  Where are the brothers and sisters who understand that WE not ONE can save the nation?

If this all you have to do be a Black leader?  Get a soap box on TV and take that influence to create a leadership persona.  Is it really that simple?  I really have to question the context of this meeting.  Is there corporate sponsorship?  Is it being done in a spirit of black unity?  I didn’t hear about it until Tavis had a bone to pick with other black leaders.

The issue came to a head recently when Tavis Smiley, appearing on the morning show of syndicated radio host Tom Joyner, openly questioned black leaders such as NAACP President Ben Jealous, the Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Council of Negro Women’s Dorothy Height about their unwillingness to hold President Obama accountable for these disparities and demanded that Obama develop an agenda targeted to address black inequalities. Impassioned by the debate, Smiley is hosting a national forum today in Chicago titled, “We Count! The Black Agenda is the American Agenda.” – Washington Post

You know, we need to be real.  There are a lot of black people who are wearing the leadership hat who frankly may just be working their gig for everylittle bit of fame we will give them because that is their full-time job.  If you are selling books, throwing events, or appearing as a TV news pundit more than twice a year, I think you may just be trying to drum up business for yourself.  Let’s be real people, we all know of  black activists who are not in it for the money.  We see people working who don’t have to invent issues or attach themselves to the latest tragedy of the day.  They are working hard as advocates on the behalf of the people and their rewards are progress and change…not air time and notoriety. Lincoln was a Republican and I don’t care…

“…my master’s gone away!”

It just makes me laugh when people post comments on Republican related articles on this blog in an effort to “educate” us about the Republican party’s connection to Abraham Lincoln.  Newsflash: I’m aware.

There is a lot that has not changed from 1800s America, but the nature of the Republican party is not one of those things.  The Republican party of the late 1800s is not the party of today.  That could be painted as a bad thing, that could be painted as a good thing…it depends on who has the paint brush in hand.

In 2009,  Republicans cannot claim the glory of Lincoln’s legacy by association any more than present day Democrats can claim the glory of Kennedy or Roosevelt presidencies. All we are really talking about here is political associations during a specific era.  Political associations are flexible and subject to change.

Having a great last name doesn’t make you great.  Being part of a wonderful family doesn’t mean you won’t one day shoot your friend in the face by accident.  Being a great dad doesn’t mean you won’t cheat on your wife with an intern.  Bottom line, it’s goodness by association.  As to say, Republicans are good because of Lincoln’s association with the party. Republicans are neither all bad or all good…but that can be said of any person, place, or political party.

Note: When I hear of Democrats saying racist things on social media sites or via email I will be sure to post them…don’t you worry.  Equal opportunity exposure, honey.

Jackie Mason: Calling Brothers “schvartze” again

When famous people get old they feel they can say anything and get away it with…like most elderly people can.  Not so.  Especially when you’ve gotten in trouble for saying something similar in the past.  I say that “schvartze” is a slur.  Period.   I agree with Sharpton though (yes, I’m surprised too).  He’s old…pray for him and leave him be.  At his age, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks or an old comedian to be PC.

Legendary funnyman Jackie Mason is getting jeers for referring to President Obama with a Yiddish word considered by many to be a racial epithet.

During his act Thursday night at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency on the upper East Side, Mason, 72, caused some fans to boo and walk out when he called Obama a “schvartze,” which is Yiddish for black.

“I’m an old Jew. I was raised in a Jewish family where ‘schvartze‘ was used,” an unapologetic Mason told TMZ.com Sunday night.

“It’s not a demeaning word and I’m not going to defend myself.” Mason then went on a rant about racism, saying, “If it’s a racist society, the white people are the ones being persecuted because they have to defend themselves.”

The Rev. Al Sharpton noted that in 1991 Mason apologized for calling former Mayor David Dinkins “a fancy schvartze with a mustache.”

“At this stage in Jackie’s life and career, he should get our prayers more than our responses,” Sharpton said.

Did Obama’s black sarcasm come out?

Barack Obama didn’t take a dig at pop star Jessica Simpson! And I’m so glad he didn’t. However, this story is making it’s rounds…Quickly.

The remark came at the end of the President Obama’s interview with NBC Sunday, when interviewer Matt Lauer held up a copy of the latest US Magazine, which features first lady Michelle Obama along with daughters Sasha and Malia. On the left side of the cover was a picture of Simpson, whom the magazine said is in a “weight battle.”

Lauer noted the magazine had replaced the president’s spot in the family photo with the Simpson headline.

“You got replaced by Jessica Simpson,” Lauer said.

“Yeah, who’s losing a weight battle apparently,” Obama said, according to the network’s interview transcript, sparking a firestorm online. “Yeah. Oh, well.”

But the transcript misquoted the president who visibly only re-read the magazine’s headline that Lauer was holding up — “She’s in a ‘weight battle,’ apparently” — and did not say that Simpson was “losing” that fight.

I think Obama should prepare to be misquoted over and over.  If he had said that, I would blame it on classic black sarcasm.  You know black folk can talk about you to your face and you would not know.  “Oh girl, those shoes are nice *roll your eyes*”  Raise your hand if you’re guilty.

Obama: Dag, the brother can’t smoke, too??

I was reading this article this morning that basically tries to make the case that Obama should stop smoking.

Mercury News Editorial – “Quit smoking. Now. Really. For good.We know it’s hard. If it weren’t, nobody would smoke anymore. And we know quitting just as you’re taking on one of the most stressful jobs in the world — well, it’s not great timing in that sense.

But it is in another: Everybody’s watching. Especially kids.

Perhaps more than any of his predecessors, Barack Obama, the first African-American president, will be held up as a role model, his triumphs and failures magnified as a consequence. Obama clearly relishes this opportunity to defeat bigotry and reframe the expectations of young people, especially African-Americans. And yet, he smokes.”

Well, Damn! When have we begged any of the Presidents to stop their bad habits, let alone smoking. I mean…maybe the whore-mongering or womanizing, sure.  I know that the man is a role model and all, but there are a whole lot of existing influences out there that can lead kids to smoke.  Parents, maybe?  Um…ads in every local corner store?  Oh, and lets not talk about the overall glorification of drug culture in music and media.  Are you telling McDonalds and Coke to stop advertising on shows where people smoke, drink, snort, etc?

Given the current sad economic state that the country is in, I don’t want a stressed out President who’s trying to get by on Nicorette gum.  I’ll by you a pack of Newports, Mr President. I got you, man.
